Founded in 2020, Charity Academy Daycare & Preschool is a grassroots educational initiative located in Arusha, Tanzania. Our mission is to provide free and quality early childhood education to the most vulnerable children in our community—including street children, orphans, and children from single-parent and low-income families.
Charity Academy currently supports over 50 children, ages 2 to 6, offering them a safe and nurturing environment where they can learn, grow, and simply be kids. Our vision, inspired by the school’s founder, is to empower children through education, creativity, and life skills—giving them the tools to build a brighter future.
Volunteers who are passionate about teaching and you want to help increase access to education in under-resourced communities in Tanzania. As you will be volunteering with the support of the local team and placement staff, you don’t need to be a qualified teacher to participate on this project. However, some relevant experience or training like a TEFL course would be useful.
Children in Tanzania love going to school and highly value the education they receive. However, once they become teenagers, many students leave school to support their families. Volunteers bring a unique variety and perspective to the education children receive while they’re at school, fostering their love for learning, broadening their minds, encouraging them to further their education and build better futures.
At Charity Academy, we go beyond the classroom. In addition to teaching basic English, numbers, alphabets, and songs, we actively encourage children to explore their natural talents through play, storytelling, music, and games. We believe that nurturing a child’s inborn abilities and interests can shape their path and open doors to lifelong opportunities.
Our school operates Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to late afternoon. Each child receives daily porridge, and when resources allow, a cooked meal. Unfortunately, due to limited funding, we cannot yet provide lunch every day. Once children reach the age of 7, we help enroll them in local government primary schools. However, our long-term goal is to expand and open our own Charity Academy daycares and Primary School by 2027, so that we can support our students through every stage of their development.
We are always looking for passionate volunteers who want to make a difference in the lives of children in Tanzania. Whether you’re a teacher, student, caregiver, artist, or someone who simply loves working with kids, your time and skills can make a huge impact.
Volunteering at Charity Academy is more than just helping—it’s about building relationships, empowering futures, and becoming part of a growing movement to bring hope through education.
Join us in Arusha, Tanzania, and be part of something meaningful. Help us change lives—one child at a time.
